Very poor quality. Would not work out of the box.
Pretty well embarassed I even bought it.
Very surprised from Shanley to put this on the market.
Would not buy or even look at again.
**Review for the 95-112 – Some previous negative reviews are for other products/model numbers.**
I’m glad I did not give credence to the negative reviews. This is a great light! The issues noted in some previous reviews have been taken care of with this model – battery caps ARE threaded, leg latch is replaced with magnetic catch (very effective), 3-level switch has been replaced with a single full-strength on/off push button switch.
Despite the tri-circular look of the light bezel, the light uses a single, very bright LED.
I was hoping for a focus-able beam, but upon using, I realized it is unnecessary – the beam is focused from the factory to a perfectly round 1-1/2″ intense center beam that stays constant from any range, surrounded by a larger “halo” that increases in size with distance.
Even though the light can take 9 AA batteries (three in each leg), it can operate on only three without any degradation in brightness (for a shorter period of time, of course).
The legs can be opened slightly, one at a time, for battery placement or opened all at once with the touch of the release button. Opening one leg past a detente also opens all three.
The head does not swivel, but this is inconsequential since it is easy to turn the tripod. The head has tilt detentes at 0, 30, 60 and 90+ degrees, but can be adjusted to any angle in between and will keep that angle. As pictured on the packaging, this light is perfect in tight places where you need both hands to work – like under a sink. Just what I was looking for! Not as indestructible as my old incandescent Mag-lite, but far lighter and more versatile, for sure. It has won a place in my tool bag. Only reason for not giving 5-star rating: haven’t had long enough for that (only one week).
I love this product. It is so handy to use no matter what the circumstances are.
I bought this for my mom. My son took one look at it and it wants one now. I guess I will have to buy a few more for Christmas presents. I have one for my car. The tripod legs are great when you have to change a tire in the dark. Awesome it is. Well worth the money.
If you’ve found yourself in a situation where you needed three hands in order to get the flashlight pointed correctly, this can be a huge help. I’m sold on the concept. I’ve noticed that there are different models available, so I don’t want to oversell this model when the concept applies equally to others. The size is appropriate for certain jobs more than others, so pay attention to the picture to see the scale.
I find this bright enough, but have not found a practical need for the two dimmer settings. I suppose that it could come in handy when you wish to extend battery life and have a lower need for illumination. My problem is that since it takes multiple presses to turn it on or off, it’s easy (for me anyway) to end up on a dim setting instead of turning it off. The tripod is the most practical feature and the amount of light is reasonable enough. The price was good, but prices vary. I found it marked down a very large percentage off the stated retail price. If it’s no longer the same bargain, I’d recommend comparing it to other models before buying it.
We’ve had this light for over a year. We very rarely change batteries, and my son has had this on overnight quite a bit. We got quite a lot of use out of this in the recent nor’easter. All of our other flashlights have died but this one is still going strong after 3 days with no power. Handy to keep on in the bathroom during an outage. I plan on buying one for every room. It’s not a super bright LED, and I don’t see much difference in the different light levels, but the tripod is great, battery life is awesome, and it’s very sturdy. (tested by an 11 yr old extensively!)
