The product is good, as the other Philips I had before.

    The remarks are:

    1) It seems less powerful than necessary, and less than my old 6830. Seems that in newer models they have traded power for silence. For my beard it makes a diference as it becomes lower and less efficient.

    2) It is marketed as having more of a shaving surface and threfore being quicker. Did not notice any diference.

    A good buy anyway.

I’ve had this razor for about two weeks now, and so far, it’s pretty good. On my face, it cuts smoothly, missing virtually no hairs; a great shave.

However, on my neck, where my hair grows horizontally, it misses about 10-15 hairs consistently. No matter how many times I go over the spots (which are in the hollow of my neck and where the jaw meets the neck) or how many different ways I try to move the shaver, they never get cut. It’s unfortunate, because this gives your shave a very unprofessional look, and in my line of business, that’s a no-no. So, I have to run over those spots with a traditional razer.

I’m not saying that this is a direct result of poor razer design, after all, my skin may still be getting used to the shaver, but it remains an inconvenience.

My previous Norelco razor (6863XL)was purchased around 8 years ago. It was a great razor that worked well even with the original blades(!). It started to make noise so after looking at options and reviews I went with the 8240XL. I was nervous because of the poor reviews some Norelco razors received from loyal customers. I have been using Norelco for about 30 years. I have used the 8240XL three times so far and have been disappointed each time. True, it is quieter and the head pivots nicely. The bottom line is that it shaves no better (perhaps worse) than my 8 year old razor with the original blades. As others have noted, the battery level indicator is a step backwards from previous models. It takes many passes to get a decent shave. I even recharged it overnight to make sure the battery was full. Since I have used it, it appears I cannot return it to Amazon. I plan to return it directly to Philips after I use it for 3 weeks as part of their 45 day guarantee. I’ll be looking at Braun and Panasonic.

I have been using Norelco electrics razors for years, no century’s and they continue to provide a close, smooth shave. This razor provides a very good shave every time I use it. It does not get the hairs on my upper lip next to my nose as close as my previous razor, but with time I will adapt adapt and make it work.

Well worth the money. I use the razor daily and the charge lasts me a full two weeks.

This was my first electric razor. I had previously been shaving with manual Gilette Fusion razors, so that is my only basis of comparison. I was looking for something that didn’t irritate my skin as much as a manual, but as far as closeness of shave, there is no comparison. The manual razor will give you a much closer shave, but generally the tradeoff will be a bit more redness & irritation, especially if you shave with a manual everyday. I have been using it for about 3 months now with no major complaints. It is pretty quiet in action, has a long battery life, and does a pretty good job as an everyday shaver. It does have difficulty shaving the neck and mustache areas, as I have to go over those areas multiple times to cut the hairs down to a reasonable level. The sideburn trimmer feature is OK, not great. But overall, I would say far less irriation than the manual razor.
